May 11, 2020 – Today, Gloucester Bio, a premier hand sanitizer manufacturer, announced plans for an expansion in production to meet public health needs resulting from COVID-19. As states begin to resume business and social activity and establish new health and safety measures, there has been a higher-than-usual demand for hand sanitizer, and manufacturers across the United States have been working to keep up in the distribution of the limited supply to workers, customers, and the public.
To meet New England’s growing market demand, Gloucester Bio has added the capacity and capabilities to scale its operations to produce over 10,000 gallons of hand sanitizer per day for personal, commercial and healthcare applications.
“New England needed a dedicated, large-scale premier manufacturer that could produce safe, effective, and advanced antimicrobial hand sanitizer to protect frontline healthcare workers, schools, businesses, and consumers for today and for years to come,” said Jeffrey Beeny, CEO of Gloucester Bio. He added, “Gloucester Bio has three key ingredients for scaling a successful hand sanitizer business in New England: 1) people experienced in the manufacturing of alcohol-based products, 2) significant investments in automated industrial equipment, and 3) long-standing direct relationships with many ethanol plants in the Midwest to be able to deliver a quality hand sanitizer product that is locally manufactured in Massachusetts”.
The company began producing hand sanitizer to assist in the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts and across the New England region. Gloucester Bio is registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to manufacture over the counter (OTC) drugs such as hand sanitizer in liquid, gel and foam formats. The company is working diligently to ramp-up production of hand sanitizer in order to produce tens of thousands of gallons of hand sanitizer per day for healthcare facilities, businesses, and cities and towns across New England.
“We have invested over $1 million into our facility and equipment as well as toward hiring new employees at our site located at 11 Dory Road in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Our facility provides us over 16,000 square feet of manufacturing space with room to expand to over 25,000 square feet with new industrial mixers, automated bottling lines, and ethanol storage capacity to produce over 10,000 gallons of hand sanitizer per day,” said David Anderson, President of Gloucester Bio.
Gloucester Bio offers hand sanitizer in bottles ranging from 2 ounces to one gallon with an option for larger product formats upon request. While the company can ship to anywhere within the continental United States, Gloucester Bio recently has been focusing on deliveries to Massachusetts and New England customers.
“We are incredibly proud of Gloucester Bio’s efforts to help combat COVID-19 here in our community by manufacturing their own hand sanitizer. Thank you to Gloucester Bio for their leadership and commitment to ensure the health and safety of Gloucester’s residents, healthcare workers, and those across New England,” said Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken.
Unlike other businesses that have only switched to producing hand sanitizer temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gloucester Bio is committed to the long-term manufacturing of hand sanitizer. Many leading medical experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, and the CDC, believe that in our ‘new normal’ reality, hand washing and hand sanitizer will be crucial tools until there is a vaccine commercially available to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Gloucester Bio is dedicated to delivering safe and effective hand sanitizer across New England for many years to come.
